About Global ministry

About Global ministry

The mission field can mean different things to different people. Some are called by God to serve directly within their communities; others are called to look beyond their local borders to share His love globally. Whatever your calling, the important part is that you listen and then act! Compass Global Ministry is committed to sharing the good news of God’s grace to our brothers and sisters around the world.
At Compass we walk alongside our missionaries through financial and prayerful support, while also investing in those in our congregation who feel led to global missions.

Multiplication starts at home; we are all called to “make disciples”. As one of our core values states, our church is about intentional outreach, local and global, in word and deed. Luke 5:32; Matthew 25:37-40

Compass Outreach is committed to encouraging those on the field through prayerful support in their day to day struggles and celebrating with them as they see the joy of the good news revealed to others.
We also try to intentionally encourage those in our congregation who are feeling called to some form of missions.

Equipping can come in many different forms – whether it is through education, by providing mentorship, or simply steering those in need to the right resources. Our desire as a church is to equip those heading into outreach ministry so that they feel prepared for the field.

At Compass we are committed to careful intentional use of the financial resources we have been blessed with as a congregation to enable others as they respond to the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

The Compass Global Ministry Team exists to oversee our Intentional Outreach initiatives and support our current missionaries on the field. As team, we are committed to:
-Facilitating communication between our missionaries and the Compass
congregation – keeping you informed of what is happening on the field
and prayer needs.

-Connecting those seeking to follow God’s call with short-term and
long-term missions opportunities.

-Prayerfully consider and provide direction to new global initiatives.
Carefully review, interview and make recommendations to the church
regarding support of missionaries and/or missions initiatives.

-Making it real – ensuring that those who may not be able to travel on
missions at this time, have an opportunity to participate from home. (ie.

Daniel and Chantal Gagne (Saint-Constant, Quebec – near Montreal)

The Lord presented a new challenge to Daniel and Chantal in 1999 when they were asked to start a new church in Joliette, northwest of Montreal. They moved to the area and started with a small group that year. Today the congregation of 80-90 people has its own building. In 2009, the church members welcomed Stéphane Gagné as their new pastor.

In the fall of 2007, Daniel and Chantal Gagné began the third new church plant of their career. In just two years, the initial small group has grown to a congregation of over forty people meeting in its own building. In the summer of 2009, God opened the doors for this young church to acquire a well located former Anglican Church building. It is situated in the heart of the church’s target area of 70,000 people on the south shore of Montreal.

The Gagne’s church has just finished an expansion of their current location, which will give their ministry room for further growth. Click here to download the most recent newsletter Learn more about Fellowship International

These radios are fix-tuned to a Quechua radio station in the city of Cochabamba which airs the gospel message 8 hours a day.

Lois Cunningham (Cambodia)

Lois has been involved in crosscultural ministry since 1974. She first went to Brazil to work in tribal work in 1974 and spent 18 years working among the Yanomami Indians in NW Brazil. It was a pioneering work of living and working in the tribe doing medical work, literacy and teaching God’s Word. God called her back to Canada to continue serving those who worked overseas by developing and using administrative skills as well as mobilizing for missions. God brought all those skills together in Cambodia as Lois pioneered a team there with the organization that she has worked with all these years.

Currently God has called Lois to invest in others for the kingdom, as a disciple-maker, a mentor and a coach to both our Crossworld team as well as Cambodian’s that God brings into her life. She finds opportunities to do that through coaching the new members of their team, as an advisor to the Khmer Program Manager of a local NGO, and build relationships through teaching English to a Khmer friend.

Crossworld’s dream is that God would raise up disciple-makers from all professions bringing God’s love to life in the world’s least-reached marketplaces. Click here to download the most recent newsletter Learn more about Crossworld

Missions Opportunities

Missions Opportunities

Multiplication Starts With You

There is no specific type of person that is called to missions - we are all called to go into all the world proclaiming the Good News of eternal life in Jesus. If you feel God is calling you to step out of your comfort zone and explore what missions could mean for you, consider the following:

Short-Term Missions

Short-term missions are a great opportunity to get out on the field and explore what God has planned for you! If you have the heart and the conviction, you will see how God can use your spiritual gifts and learned skills to further His kingdom. The short-term opportunities initiated by Compass Community Church are normally in association with one of our missionary families or partners who serve globally. We feel through these opportunities members of our congregation choosing short-term missions can provide emotional and spiritual encouragement to our missionaries with their visit while providing a personal connection back at home that can be shared with the congregation. We also support students who are serving at Christian camps for the summer.

Get Involved

If you’re considering missions, make sure you bring it to God in prayer. He will hear the cry of your heart and stand beside you as you embark on the mission field. For those at home, pray that God will bless the ministry of our short-term teams. Pray that those hearing the message of salvation will receive it with open hearts and that those serving in this way may discover a stirring in their heart for longer term missions.

Please consider partnering with our short-term and long-term missionaries through financial support. It is often very intimidating for those considering missions for the first time to raise support for their mission trip. Yet it is such an important step in the preparation process as they are challenged to trust in God to provide financial partners and prayer partners who will walk beside them on their journey. You can also support our missionaries by communicating with them on a regular basis. Whether it is providing words of encouragement as you follow a short-term team’s blog on Facebook or you make a commitment to partner in communication with one of our long-term missionaries, your prayers and support can make such a difference.

What are you waiting for? If God is calling you to missions, then GO! Please contact us and let’s start looking at what opportunities God might be leading you towards.

Long-Term Missions

Career missions includes anyone preparing to go to a different culture for a period longer than one year. At Compass we are committed to raising up and sending out long-term missionaries. If you are interested in long-term missions and have questions, please contact us. We may not have all the answers, but we can connect you with the right resources and people to help you along the way!

Applying for Support

Compass sets aside limited funds to provide financial support to both short-term and long-term missionaries. Please download the application form and take some time to fill it out in detail. Once completed, please submit to Chris Horsten, Director of Global Ministry.

Uganda Partnership

Uganda Partnership

Uganda Partnership

Uganda Partnership

Over the years Compass Missions has grown and evolved. Much of this growth has been due to our long-term relational commitment to our brothers and sisters in Uganda.

As a church, we wanted to approach missions in a tangible way, searching for a community we could partner with on a deeper level. IN Canada was able to connect us with a region in Uganda; a community of churches, pastors and schools who have a heart for Jesus and spreading the good news of the gospel.

Our church family has come alongside these communities through child sponsorship, through prayer, through small group partnerships and by way of annual visits to encourage and fellowship our friends there. We continue to look for ways to equip our dear friends in a sustainable way with resources and the education they need to be a light in their communities.
